Multi-resistant pseudomonas aeruginosa: study of risk factors for its detection at intensive care unit admission
نویسندگان
چکیده
Methods From variables collected prospectively in ENVIN study (national nosocomial infection surveillance study), data was analyzed from 16950 patients admitted in 151 polyvalent ICU during the period from April to June in 2010, as a multipurpose cohort with univariable analysis and a multivariable logistic regression. Multi-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa, was defined as being resistant to three or more antipseudomonal families. The study variables are: age, gender, underlying disease, origin, urgent surgery, immunosuppression, immunodeficiency, neutropenia, surgical wound infection (superficial or deep) and skin and soft tissue infections.

Imipenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains carry vim-type metallo-beta-lactamases isolated from intensive care unit, Shahid Beheshti Hospital, North of Iran
Background: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is the causing agent of many hospital infections and metallo-beta-lactamases (MBL) are being reported with increasing frequency. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of metallo-&beta-lactamases (MBL) and VIM-1 gene in multidrug-resistant strains of P. aeruginosa isolates and to compare the methods of phenotypic and molecular detection. Materia...
متن کاملColonization pressure as a risk factor for colonization by multiresistant Acinetobacter spp and carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa in an intensive care unit
OBJECTIVE To determine factors associated with colonization by carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa and multiresistant Acinetobacter spp. METHODS Surveillance cultures were collected from patients admitted to the intensive care unit at admission, on the third day after admission and weekly until discharge. The outcome was colonization by these pathogens. Two interventions were implemen...
متن کاملDetection of Different Types of Metallo-β-Lactamases among Pseudomonas aeruginosa Isolates Obtained from Intensive Care Unit Patients
Introduction: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a serious challenge for antimicrobial therapy, due to chromosomal mutations or intrinsic resistance to various antimicrobial agents, such as Metallo-β-Lactams (MBL). This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of β-lactamases encoding genes among P. aeruginosa strains isolated from intensive care unit (ICU) patients by phenotypic and multiplex PCR meth...
متن کاملMolecular detection of Integron genes and pattern of antibiotic resistance in Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains isolated from intensive care unit, Shahid Beheshti Hospital, North of Iran
Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the most important pathogens that causes nosocomial infections and shows high level of antibiotic resistance. Integrons are one of the transposable elements in bacteria and their role in antibiotic resistance has been well demonstrated. The aim of this study was a molecular characterization of the integron genes and the determination of the resistance or sensiti...
متن کاملLessons Learned from Surveillance of Antimicrobial Susceptibilities of Pseudomonas aeruginosa at a Large Academic Medical Center †
This research report assessed the differences in resistance rates and antimicrobial usage-versus-susceptibility relationships of Pseudomonas aeruginosa found in various hospital patient care areas. A simplified case control study was also performed to identify patient-specific risk factors associated with cefepime-resistant P. aeruginosa isolates. Last, we determined the consequence of combinin...
